Marking the Transition: The Slot

On the north and south sides of our facility, sleek panes of glass join the historic and contemporary elements of the Harvard Art Museums building in an area that we call “the Slot.” Here the elegant red brickwork of the façade extends into the building, as do the planks of Alaskan Yellow Cedar that cover our new addition. This area of architectural transition is a place where passersby can peek into the museums to get a taste of the exciting activity taking place within as we finish our construction project. Once we reopen in fall 2014, objects from our collections will be on view in each slot.
